Badger Mountain and War Paint
The Pendleton Round-Up is continuing a recent tradition this year with the fifth annual coloring contest for kids, age four to 10 years old. Kids and parents are invited to stop by the Pendleton D&B Supply and pick up their free coloring book, and an entry form for the contest.
War Paint, the famous bucking horse on display in the Round-Up and Happy Canyon Hall of Fame, is one of the pictures for the entrants to color. Peanuts, a famed steer wrestling horse also in the Hall of Fame, will be featured as well. Both War Paint and Peanuts continue the tradition of world renowned livestock being a part of the coloring and activity book the Round-Up publishes.
The coloring book and entry forms are available only at D&B Supply in Pendleton.
Carl Culham, Round-Up publicity director, says the coloring book was well received last year.
“The Round-Up is excited to be able to get kids and parents involved in another facet of our community-wide celebration once again this year,” he said. “It’s a lot of fun to have this opportunity to help kids and parents learn about the history of Round-Up and all of the ancillary events.”
“We at D&B Supply are very excited to take part in the Pendleton Round-Up and Happy Canyon Pageant again this year.” said Bill Arrington, D&B store manager in Pendleton. “The coloring & activity book is a terrific opportunity to help influence the younger generations appreciate our western heritage and lifestyle in Pendleton and beyond.”
The Pendleton D&B Supply is also giving away a free gift to all participants. Simply bring in a coloring contest entry and the coupon from the back of the coloring and activity book to the Pendleton D&B Supply to receive a free Schleich animal.
The coloring contest will begin September 5th, and go through September 10th, with the winners announced on September 12th at a cake and punch reception from 1-2 pm at the Pendleton D & B Supply. Prizes will be awarded in three age groups, age 4-5 years old, age 6-7 years old, and age 8-10 years old.
The Pendleton Round-Up and Happy Canyon is held the second full week of September in Pendleton, Ore. The Round-Up began in 1910 and is recognized as one of the oldest and most prestigious rodeos in the world and won the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association’s 2003 Large Outdoor Rodeo Committee of the Year Award. The Happy Canyon Night Show is a colorful display of Indian pageantry and tradition and takes place every night of Round-Up. A week full of activities, including parades, concerts, PBR bull-riding competition, barbecues, dances, gambling and numerous other events begin Saturday, Sept. 12th and continue through Saturday, Sept. 19th.
