Orville Gerberding Memorial Volunteer
of the Year ~ Mark Herburger

2009 Volunteer of the Year 2

Round-Up Director Dennis Hunt, Mark Herburger and Round-Up Director Bill Quesenberry.

Mark has been a Round-Up volunteer for 15 years.  He is the man behind the scenes. You don’t have to ask him to do anything, he’s already fixed broken boards and repainted them, changed light bulbs or fixtures that have burned out, cleaned stalls and on a daily routine cleans the cowboy’s room.

He has hauled our dust control material all the way from Portland and then helped apply it. Just about every night after everyone has gone home here comes Mark at 9:00 PM back to the shop with his headlamp on packing four different colors of paint and usually wearing a little of each color – where has he been?  Painting boards on the bucking chutes that got damaged during the day’s performance.

Mark is the real definition of a Pendleton Round-Up Volunteer.  His family, all volunteer and understand when they go home that he’ll be there, just a little later; he’s got one more thing to fix before the next day’s performance.

Mark’s wife Michelle says “I know that Mark is very proud of Pendleton and especially the Round-Up. It is important

to him that he helps to make it a positive experience for both the locals and visitors of our community.  He talks of making it a clean and safe experience so families will want to keep coming year after year. Thank you for letting him (and us) be a small part of it all.”

Congratulations Mark and thank you for all that you do for the Pendleton Round-Up.
