In September 1910, the first Pendleton Round-Up drew a crowd of 7,000 spectators. It was an instant sensation, and over the past one hundred years the gathering has grown in popularity and size into what is now a four-day event attracting visitors from around the world.
One hundred years later, Western Crossings, LLC is proud to present Let’er Buck Cologne, the official fragrance of the Pendleton Round-Up. It is that same cowboy spirit that was first captured in 1910 that we hope to embody in our unique fragrance for men.

Let’er Buck Cologne will be available in the Pendleton Round-Up Retail Store, located inside the Hall Of Fame Building at 1114 SW Court Avenue in Pendleton Oregon ~ Fragrance will be available September 1st, 2010

Pendleton Round-Up Receives Award

Pendleton Round-Up Receives Award

The Pendleton Round-Up, which has exhibited the traditions of the west for a century and become a defining event for Eastern Oregon, has been named an Oregon Heritage Tradition by the Oregon Heritage Commission.

The Pendleton Round-Up is only the second event given the honor. The first went last year to the Oregon State Fair, which began when Abraham Lincoln was president and has since attracted more than 44 million people to its events and activities.

“The Heritage Commission wants to recognize those traditions that have helped define the state,” said Commission chairman George Kramer. “They are distinguished events that are part of our heritage as Oregonians. This is certainly true of the Round-Up.”

“It’s a great honor to become only the second event in the great state of Oregon to receive the Oregon Heritage Tradition designation,” Round-Up Director Carl Culham said. “The Round-Up is pleased that the spirit of volunteerism and respect for tradition that the rodeo is dedicated to is being recognized on a state-wide basis.”

The Pendleton Round-Up Association traces its beginnings back to 1910 when a group of Pendleton businessmen headed by Roy Raley volunteered to incorporate the Northwestern Frontier Celebration Association as a non-profit entity. This group organized the first Round-Up as entertainment that gave tribute to bronc busting and American Indian dancing.

Now the association’s 17 volunteer directors, supported by a paid office staff of five and joined by two-ex-officio members, direct more than 900 volunteers to make the event a reality the second full week of September. The famed grass arena still shows off saddle bronc riding, steer wrestling and steer roping that is like it was in 1910 and other events of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association. About 30,000-40,000 spectators attend annually, including an encampment of 300 plus teepees.

It is estimated that the Round-Up brings at least a $50 million benefit every year to the service organizations, school groups and businesses. Books and films about the Round-Up have helped make Pendleton a destination for western heritage tourists. Unlike other major rodeos, the Round-Up stands fast in saluting its heritage. Sponsor signs and other commercial elements are not allowed in the arena, making the event held the second full week of September a true example of the rodeos of a century ago.

An Oregon Heritage Tradition must have been in continuous operation for more than 50 years, demonstrates a public profile and reputation that distinguishes it from more routine events, and add to the livability and identity of the state, said Commission coordinator Kyle Jansson.

The Oregon Heritage Commission coordinates efforts to solve statewide heritage issues through grants, education, and advocacy, and also promotes heritage tourism efforts.

Legendary rodeo grounds display winning new scoreboard

PENDLETON, Ore. – One hundred year birthdays don’t come around very often, and Pendleton gets to celebrate two of them this year. Pacific Power is sharing its own centennial milestone of service in the Pendleton area with the legendary Pendleton Round-Up.

Leveraging the common birthdays, Pacific Power is contributing $35,000 toward the new state-of-the-art scoreboard with video replay capability currently being installed at the newly renovated Round-Up Grounds. The scoreboard will be in place and operating in time for the Round-Up which takes place the second full week of September.

Pacific Power worked with local leaders to select this birthday gift, a legacy gift for the Pendleton area to commemorate 100 years of lighting up local homes and businesses. A gathering 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 23 at the Round-Up Grounds will dedicate this gift and unveil the bronze plaque that will be placed when the scoreboard is completed.

Pendleton was one of four communities originally served when Pacific Power & Light Company was incorporated June 16, 1910. Others were Astoria, Ore., and Walla Walla and Yakima, Wash. The first Pendleton Round-Up was held Sept. 29, 1910.

“The Round-Up is very delighted to share a birthday with a company like Pacific Power, that’s been lighting the trail for 100 years,” said Round-Up President Randy Severe. “This new scoreboard, complete with a big screen, will greatly enhance spectators’ views of the Round-Up activities. Reaching our 100th Round-Up is a great honor for us, and it’s significant that Pacific Power will play a role in lighting up the new records being set, on the new scoreboard, for many years to come.”

“We are proud to have grown up with the Pendleton community and with the legendary Pendleton Round-Up, so iconic to the community and region,” said Pat Reiten, president, Pacific Power. “At Pacific Power, we always know that we exist because of our customers and that we are only as strong as the communities we serve. We know this new scoreboard will be appreciated and well-used for many years to come, by the Round-Up, high school football and all the other activities that take place at these facilities year-round.”

About Pacific Power

In 2010, Pacific Power celebrates 100 years serving customers and communities. Our goal is to provide our customers with value for their energy dollar, and safe, reliable electricity, for another 100 years. PENDLETON — Long-time Round-Up barrel man Flint Rasmussen will return for the Centennial Round-Up thanks to the cooperation of current barrel man Keith Isley and the Professional Bull Riders. Rasmussen will team up for the first time with Isley during Wednesday’s rodeo. Before signing his exclusive PBR contract, Rasmussen had been named PRCA Clown of the Year for eight consecutive years and won the Coors Man in the Can honors seven times. Isley is following in Rasmussen’s footsteps. At the 2009 PRCA convention, he was named Barrel Man of the Year, Clown of the Year and Coors Man in the Can.

Flint At Rodeo

“Since Flint retired from doing Round-Up in 2005, we’ve always talked about him returning in some capacity for 2010,” Round-Up Vice President Dennis Hunt said. “Flint has made a lot of friends in Pendleton over the years, but because of his PBR contract, we really didn’t know what he would be allowed to do.”

Hunt said PBR had no objection to Rasmussen making this one-time appearance before he travels to the next PRB event in Springfield, Mo. The Round-Up vice president then asked Isley about adding Rasmussen to the bill.

“As one would expect, Keith is excited about the two of them working together at Wednesday’s Round-Up,” he said. “Neither they nor I know exactly what the day will bring. I do know that Flint wants to sing his song, ‘I really love that Pendleton Round-Up.’ I’ve got a feeling that once he gets here, he and Keith will have some funny stuff put together.”
