In honor of the one-hundredth anniversary of the Pendleton Round-Up in 2010, the Krazy Horse Quilters of Pendleton, Oregon, is issuing a challenge to all quilters titled “100 Years of the Pendleton Round-Up.” Participants are invited to create a 24″ x 36″ (61cm x 91cm) quilt depicting their vision, memories, or interpretations of the Pendleton Round-Up. Cash prizes will be awarded. Quilts must meet size requirements as well as the standard “sandwich” requirements of a top, batting and back, and must include a four inch hanging sleeve. Participants may not use the “Let’er Buck” slogan or the official silhouette picture of the rider on the bucking horse in their work as these are copyrighted items, and may not be used without explicit permission of the Pendleton Round-Up. Quilts may be traditional or artistic and anything in between, as long as they comply with the above requirements. The quilts will be displayed for the first time in May, 2010, at the Krazy Horse Quilters’ show, with all quilts being due by April 20, 2010. The second showing will be during the 100th anniversary of the Pendleton Round-Up the second full week in September, 2010. Thereafter we will be sending the quilt exhibit on tour to several venues throughout the US and internationally. For more information, go to www.krazyhorsequilters.org or www.pendletonquiltworks.com

The 100th anniversary of the Pendleton Round-Up will kick-off with a New Year’s eve celebration on December 31st, 2009.  The “Let’er Buck Ball” is planned as the initial kick-off event for the 2010 rodeo, to be held September 15th through the 18th.

The 21-and-over event, taking place at the Hamley and Co. facility in downtown Pendleton, will feature celebrities, dignitaries, public officials, and cowboys and cowgirls from around the northwest, along with multiple entertainment options through the evening as well as a live and silent auction.

Tim Hawkins, Pendleton Round-Up arena director and chairman of the Round-Up centennial committee says the intent is to kick off the year in a style unique to the Pendleton Round-Up.

“When the concept came about, there was no doubt in my mind that it had to be a first class, once-in-a-lifetime western affair,” Hawkins said.  “We have the unique ability to make this happen and it’s going to be a lot of fun.”

Hawkins says guests are encouraged to wear their favorite rodeo regalia from the past hundred years.  The evening will include live entertainment, food by Hamley Continue reading…

Round-Up directors Bill Quesenberry, Kevin Hudson, Tygh Campbell holding his daughter Charlie, Randy Severe, Carl Peterson, Larry Williams, Bill Lorenzen and Troy LeGore grabbed some shovels Sept. 27 as WC Construction began the demolition phase on the west grandstands.

PENDLETON, Ore. – The Pendleton Round-Up Association is getting ready for the centennial with an ambitious project that will see the west grandstand seating improved and covered from the elements. Demolition work by Jim Hatley of WC Construction began over the weekend and Round-Up President Randy Severe said it won’t take long to complete that phase.

“If all goes according to schedule, the demolition part will be completed Oct. 1,” Severe said. “It’s going to really be an asset for Round-Up in the future.”

In addition to covering 8,000 seats, the project will construct booths to sell refreshments as well as three additional sets of restroom facilities, Severe said.

“It’s going to be very user-friendly,” he said of the improvements. “It will be a real asset for the Round-Up and for Pendleton for years to come.”

Advance tickets for Saturday of the 2010 Round-Up are sold out, according to Round-Up Director Troy LeGore. He also predicted the advance tickets for Friday will be gone by the end of the week, as only east bleacher seats remain.

“We were busy,” LeGore said of Round-Up week ticket sales. “Even so,” he added, “those who have yet to buy tickets shouldn’t give up.”

“There is a potential for more tickets to become available after April 15,” he said. “We’ve been very conservative on advanced sales because we just aren’t sure of the seating layout of the new west grandstands. We don’t want to oversell.  Once we get all the advance ticket seating assignments finished and the permanent orders confirmed, we’re hoping we’ll have more tickets available.”  He encouraged fans to Continue reading…
