Pendleton Groups, Fans Enjoy 2007
PENDLETON, OR – The Pendleton Round-Up Association, the Happy Canyon Company, and the Pendleton Round-Up and Happy Canyon Hall of Fame have all reported positive attendance and sales numbers for 2007. All signs have pointed to a fun, well organized eight or nine day annual gathering which includes the Round-Up, Happy Canyon and all of the ancillary events that go along with them.
Dennis Hunt, Round-Up publicity director says he’s very pleased with the early returns.
“Everything was very positive. The weather was fantastic, numbers look good so far, and it was just a great 2007.”
Hunt reported unofficially that attendance was up for the Pendleton Round-Up for Wednesday and Thursday, while Friday and Saturday ticket sales were flat. Hunt also mentioned that beer and concession sales were up, and Let ‘er Buck room receipts were ahead of last year as well.
“The LBR performed well, and the new expanded portion of it seemed to eliminate a lot of those lines we’ve seen in the past. We’re very happy about that improvement.”
Official Round-Up attendance, sales, and souvenir numbers will be presented at the Pendleton Round-Up stockholders’ meeting in November.
Attendace was also up every night at the Happy Canyon Night Show. Happy Canyon Publicity Director Chris Cockburn reports a very posititve year.
“2007 was great from the weather to the mood of the crowds. It seemed like everyone was having a really good time and it was, all around, a fantastic year.”
Cockburn also reported that the concert featuring Josh Turner and The Wreckers was a near sellout, and the U.S. Bank PBR Classic Professional Bull Riders event on Monday and Tuesday nights completely sold out for the first time in its 9 year history.
Nels Nelson, the Pendleton Round-Up and Happy Canyon Hall of Fame publicity director echoes those same sentiments. Nelson said it was a great way to re-live the history of the Round-Up and Happy Canyon.
“This year was a nice way to celebrate our one-year anniversary in this location,” said Nelson. “By all accounts, our building project has been a success, and it will perpetuate the Round-Up and Happy Canyon and the people involved for years to come.”
The Pendleton Round-Up and Happy Canyon is held the second full week of September in Pendleton, Ore. The Round-Up began in 1910 and is recognized as one of the oldest and most prestigious rodeos in the world and won the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association’s 2003 Large Outdoor Rodeo Committee of the Year Award. The Happy Canyon Night Show is a colorful display of Indian pageantry and tradition and takes place every night of Round-Up. A week full of activities, including parades, concerts, PBR bull-riding competition, barbecues, dances, gambling and numerous other events begin Saturday, Sept. 7th and continue through Saturday, Sept. 15th.
