Let'er Buck Room Expanded
PENDLETON -The world famous Let 'er Buck room at the Pendleton Round-Up has undergone a recent expansion and will be open and ready to serve patrons at the 2007 Pendleton Round-Up.
The expansion has taken place utilizing the space formerly occupied by the Pendleton Round-Up and Happy Canyon Hall of Fame, under the south grandstand and just west of the current Let 'er Buck room.
Let 'er Buck room director Bill Morrison says it will not only service customers better, but will also add much needed flexibility.
"Right now we plan to have the new expansion open Friday and Saturday, but if there's a need we can open on Wednesday or Thursday as well," he said. "We're hoping to increase service and revenue and the construction is right on schedule."
Construction is slated to be finished by early September, just in time for an opening during the 2007 Pendleton Round-Up.
Morrison also said with more room, they needed more volunteers.
"We've added 10-12 more people. Liquor monitors, bartenders, and people watching the capacity," he said. "Overall, we are very excited to provide this much needed space to Round-Up patrons, and everyone from the city and the contractors have been great to work with."
Butch Thurman, President of the Pendleton Round-Up Board, said it was only a matter of time before the expansion project took full flight.
"We started talking about this over the last several years as the Hall of Fame had begun working on moving to a new location," he said. "We wanted to provide our customers with more room, cut down on the long lines, and just give more people a chance to experience the Let 'er Buck room, and the Round-Up's western hospitality."
The project includes putting a large sliding door in the wall between the current Let 'er Buck room and the new expansion area, along with adding a ramp and other refurbishments. WC Construction of Elgin is overseeing the project.
The Pendleton Round-Up and Happy Canyon is held the second full week of September in Pendleton, Ore. The Round-Up began in 1910 and is recognized as one of the oldest and most prestigious rodeos in the world and won the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association's 2003 Large Outdoor Rodeo Committee of the Year Award. The Happy Canyon Night Show is a colorful display of Indian pageantry and tradition and takes place every night of Round-Up. A week full of activities, including parades, concerts, PBR bull-riding competition, barbecues, dances, gambling and numerous other events begin Saturday, Sept. 8th and continue through Saturday, Sept. 15th.
