Local Favorite Brad Goodrich captures lead in calf and steer roping on day 3 of 98th annual Round-Up; Rodeo fans mourn passing of renowned bucking horse, Anchor Bay.

Local favorite Brad Goodrich, Hermiston, OR, captured first in calf roping and in steer roping, while also placing in the steer wrestling event Friday, as the 98th staging of the legendary Pendleton Round-Up moved into the final of its four days-Saturday’s final events. At the same time rodeo fans mourned the passing of Anchor Bay, a renowned bucking horse who died on Friday after suffering an injury in the bareback event on Wednesday.

The 98th Edition of the Pendleton Round-Up is off and rolling this week as nearly 700 contestants compete for more than $400,000 is prize money. With the regular season coming to a close at the end of the month, Pendleton is an important stop for the cowboys.

Trevor Brazile, the sport’s five-time and reining world champion is one of the favorites to capture this year’s coveted all around title. “It’s a good rodeo. It’s the last big rodeo up here before we head south,” he said. “It’s the tradition and there’s a lot of stuff to like about Pendleton, not to mention the money.” Brazile has had good late-summer surge to pull away from the pack in the all around standings.
