Pendleton-What to do and where to stay

Pendleton, Oregon - it’s like no other place. Among rolling wheat fields, it's located at the baseline of the Blue Mountains, and along the Oregon Trail. Approximately 3 1/2 hours East of Portland, Oregon and 4 hours West of Boise, Idaho just off of interstate 84. We’re known as a historic western town in the Pacific Northwest - a quaint family community. It’s farm country, and it’s beautiful here. The Pendleton Woolen Mills started here. The famous Pendleton Round-up is here. Craft makers of hats, boots, and saddles, are here. Farm to table eateries are here. We even have our very own regional symphony. We love it here.

We enjoy all four seasons with hot summers and cold winters. We’re surrounded by the beauty of Native American heritage, as Pendleton is nestled near the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation.

The beautiful city of Pendleton, Oregon has hosted the Pendleton Round-Up since 1910. Below you will find some information to help make your stay in our town more enjoyable. You're always welcome to visit the Pendleton Round-Up and Happy Canyon retail store for amazing merchandise, jewelry and souvenirs.

How to Book A Room During the Pendleton Round-Up

How to find lodging:

Visit www.pendletonchamber.com and look at all the lodging options in Pendleton.
- 1250 rooms
- 160 RV spaces
Start as early in the year as you can; your chances are better. It doesn’t matter if it the first week of September someone might cancel, try, you might get lucky.
Call the local number for a motel. Don’t use an 800 number or website to try to book a room.
Ask for a reservation. If the motel doesn’t have a room for Round-Up, ask if they will be releasing any blocks of rooms and when that would be.
Ask to be put on a waiting list for a room.
Make a relationship with a manager. Call back often and be courteous.
Those folks that have reservations from previous years may have to cancel. Call the motel and inquire.
In June, www.pendletonchamber.com will start listing local homes that can be rented for Round-Up. This is always a good option. Bring some friends or family and make yourself at home.
In January of each year, the Pendleton Chamber of Commerce, starts taking reservations for RV spots at various schools in Pendleton. The spots are first come, first serve and are “Dry Camps”. Reach the Pendleton Chamber at (541) 276-7411 Office Hours: Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Tickets to the Round-Up and Happy Canyon Indian Pageant are much easier to get on Wednesday and Thursday and so are rooms.
Plan B – start looking in Hermiston, OR, Walla Walla, WA,or Milton Freewater, OR, which are roughly 30 miles away OR you may have to travel to La Grande, OR, 50 miles away from Pendleton.
If you are able to book a room, KEEP IT! Make the reservation for the next year and years to come while you are at Round Up. Hang on to them!

Parking:

There are shuttles that will take you around town, from the RV parking lots, downtown and Wildhorse. They run from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Parking near Round-Up Stadium and Happy Canyon fills up early, it's pay to park and is very limited. Park somewhere easy and take the shuttle. The Pendleton Round-Up Shuttle Service drives through Pendleton and stops near many hotels, for more info call them at 541-379-5666. Wildhorse Resort and Casino offers a shuttle service from the casino to the Round-Up Grounds every 30 minutes. Kayak Shuttle offers service around Umatilla county, for more info call 541-429-7519.

You can also park near our downtown. The Round-Up grounds is only 10 blocks from Main Street. We also have a beautiful River Walk that will take you to the Stadium!
